Instagram saved posts disappeared? Here's why
Instagram doesn't delete your saves. A save is a bookmark to someone else's post, so when that post goes, your save goes with it. Here's what happened, what you can get back, and how to make sure it never happens again.
First, check it's really gone
-
Look on the web. Open instagram.com/YOUR_USERNAME/saved/ in a browser. If the post is there but missing in the app, the app is out of date: update it, or log out and back in.
-
Think about whether you unsaved it. The bookmark icon is a switch, and one stray tap removes the save. Instagram keeps no record of unsaved posts, so there's nothing to restore.
Why saved posts vanish
If it isn't on the web either, the post changed, not your save. Whether it can come back depends on what happened to it.
- The creator deleted it. It's gone for good.
- The creator archived it. It comes back if they unarchive it.
- The account went private, and you don't follow it. It comes back if they accept your follow or go public again.
- The account was deactivated. It comes back if they reactivate it.
- The account was deleted. It's gone for good.
- The account blocked you. It comes back only if they unblock you.
- Instagram removed it for breaking its rules. It comes back only if the removal is reversed.
In every case, Instagram never held a copy for you. The save only ever pointed at someone else's post.
What Instagram's data download can tell you
You can request a copy of your data under Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information. Instagram says the link can take up to 30 days to arrive by email.
Your saved posts come through as a list of links, with the account name and when you saved each one. There are no images and no captions. For a post that's already gone, the link leads nowhere, so the download can't bring it back either.
Make sure it never happens again
The only save that survives is one you keep yourself. Findy imports your whole Instagram Saved in one run, and keeps the caption and a copy of the image for every post. When a creator deletes a post or an account goes private, your copy in Findy stays put, and still turns up when you search for it.
Your collections come across as tags. Run the import again whenever you like: it brings in your new saves and skips the ones you already have.
Quick answers
Does Instagram delete saved posts?
No. Your saves disappear when the original post does: it's deleted, archived, made private, or removed.
Can I get back a post I unsaved by accident?
Not through Instagram. If you remember the account, find the post on their profile and save it again.
Can I see a saved post from an account that went private?
Only if you follow the account, or it goes public again.
Does the creator know I saved their post?
No. Only you can see what you've saved.
